The purpose of the food service program is to educate and assist food service professionals in preventing conditions and practices in food service establishments that endanger public health.
"Food Service Establishment" is defined in Montana regulations, and includes an operation that stores, prepares, packages, serves, vends or otherwise provides food for human consumption in a mobile, stationary, temporary, semi-permanent facility or location; where consumption is on or off the premises and regardless of whether there is a charge for the food. Gallatin City-County Health Department is under contract with the Department of Public Health and Human Services, Food and Consumer Safety Section to inspect food service establishments and vendors. Food service establishments are inspected by a Registered Sanitarian for compliance with health and safety regulations as part of the licensing process. Food establishments include restaurants, bars, mobile food and beverage carts, grocery stores, honey processors, meat markets, bottled water producers, bakeries and institutional food services at schools. Specific areas of responsibility within the food service program include:
· Inspections of food service establishments
· Plan review of new or renovated/remodeled food service
establishments
· Food services of non-profit organizations and Farmer's Markets
· Temporary food service
· Educational service for food service providers and the public
· Investigation of food borne illness; and
· Consumer complaints
