Private Wells
Many homes in our valley are served by private wells. Certified sanitarians and Local Water Quality District (LWQD) staff are available to educate landowners about private well issues. The following educational resources may provide private well users a better understanding of well issues:
Public Water Systems
The Montana Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) is responsible for reviewing and regulating public water supplies. The Gallatin City-County Health Department is under contract with the MDEQ to conduct sanitary surveys of public water systems. These surveys are done to discover potential sanitary defects of the water system to help prevent contamination risks. The definition of a public water supply is a system that has at least 15 service connections or that regularly serves at least 25 persons daily for at least 60 days in a calendar year.
