The fascination of flying an airplane, launching a rocket, conquering space and becoming an astronaut or pilot comes alive for you in Soaring Above and Beyond, the new aerospace adventure series. Through fun and challenging "learning-by-doing" activities, you will learn about flying, kites, hot air balloons, remote control airplanes, gliders and space shuttles.
AEROSPACE, Level 1, Preflight
(for Cloverbuds only) Not available in Montana
AEROSPACE, Level 2 - 5010
Ready to lift off? Whether you have just started exploring aerospace or already know about rockets, hot air balloons, airplanes and kites, you'll enjoy toe activities in Lift Off. In this project, you'll learn how to build a straw rocket, make a paper airplane, build a real model rocket, make and read a map, identify airplane models, discover how weather affects flying, identify parts of a hot air balloon, how "angle of attack" affect kite flying and much more! Get ready to file your flight plan, select your aerospace helper and complete the Lift Off achievement plan. You should complete a minimum of seven activities and three learning experiences each year (such as giving a demonstrations, participating in a judging activity, taking a tour, exhibiting you project, or attending a workshop). You will need to complete a total of 20 activities in all to complete this project. You may take 3 years to complete this level of the aerospace program.
Materials:
M Lift Off, BU6843 $4.00
L Flight Crew-Leader's/Helper's Activity Guide, BU6846 $3.75
L Launching Youth Aerospace programs-Community Organizer's Guide, BU6847 $3.00
AEROSPACE, Level 3 - 5020
Ready to explore more aerospace activities? Whether you have just started exploring aerospace or already know about rockets, hot air balloons, airplanes and kites, you'll enjoy these activities. You'll learn how to build your own drinking straw and balloon rocket, organize a model rocket launch day, make a paper flight simulator, make a flying wing (glider), build a controllable glider and demonstrate its flight capabilities, build a "shuttle on a string", make a hang glider, build a Nagasaki Hata Fighter Kite, identify parts of a helicopter and much more! You should complete a minimum of seven activities and three learning experiences each year (such as giving a demonstration, participating in a judging activity, taking a tour, exhibiting your project, or attending a workshop). You will need to
complete a total of 20 activities in all to complete this project. You may take 3 years to complete this level of the aerospace program.

AEROSPACE, Level 4 - 5030
If you have completed the other levels of this project, you are ready for a new challenge. In this level, you will design, build and launch a model rocket, construct and use an altitude tracker, research how to qualify for a pilot's license, plan the most fuel-efficient flight path for a commercial aircraft, evaluate and design navigation systems, build a flat-style box kite, design and propose a new Emergency Medical Service (EMS) helicopter service, investigate gravity, complete a career profile and much more! You should complete a minimum of seven activities and three learning experiences each year (such as giving a demonstration, participating in a judging activity, taking a tour, exhibiting you project, or attending a workshop). You will need to complete a total of 20 activities in all to complete
this project. You may take 3 years to complete this level of the aerospace program.
