SELF-DETERMINED - 7300
This project is intended for older boys and girls. It offers an opportunity to develop and carry out a project of your own design. This means selecting a topic, deciding upon goals, obtaining resources and designing records. You, the member, are responsible for developing this project; therefore, it should not be used as a catch-all for 4-H projects not offered in this project selection guide. This project can cover any subject. it may be related to any current 4-H project. You'll want to design projects that have special interest for you. The success of the project depends upon you initiative. Those who select a worthwhile topic and become intrigued with it often do some of the best and most rewarding 4-H work. The member's manual and the leader's guide suggest ways to
proceed. Following these general steps will help you develop a self-determined project:
l Decide upon an area of interest or concern.
l Set goals (what you want to learn).
l Locate resources (people, publications and materials) which would be helpful in carrying out the self-determined project.
l Decide upon the experiences, methods, procedures, tasks and responsibilities needed to accomplish the goals.
l Determine the extent to which the goals were accomplished by determining what was learned and how it could be improved.
l Carry out and evaluate the self-determined project.
