Wildlife

The Montana 4-H Wildlife and Habitat Education Program (WHEP) offers you the opportunity to learn about two of Montana's greatest resources: wildlife and wildlife habitat.  Montana's wildlife are one of our state's biggest attractions.  Through you work in this project, you'll learn about wildlife behavior, habitat requirements, how wildlife species fit into nature's scheme, how they are managed, and how they relate to humans.  The Montana 4-H WHEP project takes a hands-on approach which requires you to demonstrate initiative and self-motivation.  Each level is designed to provide either team or self-directed work ranging from learning how to work with local wildlife managers, to developing management plans, to participating in wildlife habitat judging contests.  You may work as long as you want in each level, but you are encouraged to learn as much as possible about Montana's diverse and numerous wildlife species and habitats.
