Reporting Communicable Diseases in Montana
Montana health care providers are required to report cases of the following conditions to their county health department. This reporting falls within HIPAA medical privacy exceptions for release of information. Reporting patients with the conditions below does not require patient consent. Reporting enables public health officials to conduct follow-up on cases of significance, and to identify outbreaks or emerging health concerns.


AIDS / HIV Infection1
Colorado Tick Fever
Cytomegaloviral illness
Diarrheal disease outbreak1
E. coli enteritis, e.g., E. coil O157:H7
Encephalitis
Gastroenteritis epidemic, food-borne illness
Granuloma inguinale
Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome
Lead poisoning (>10 ugldi)
Listeriosis
Q-fever
Reye's Syndrome
Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS)1
Streptococcus pneumoniae invasive disease
Tick-borne relapsing fever
Transmissable Spongiform Encephalopathies
