PRESS RELEASE REGARDING ENERGY SAVINGS IDEAS
May 28, 2008
With what seems to be a constant rise to our energy costs, the Commission has suggested a new committee that would brainstorm ideas to help reduce the County's energy/fuel usage and realize cost savings in various areas.
Now I know what you're thinking: not another County committee! We are optimistic that this committee will be less formal. No by-laws, no chair or other "elected" positions. Just a few interested staff members and citizens getting together to think of ways we can minimize usage, and maximize efficiency.
Some ideas so far have been reducing the air conditioning's scheduled time each day, raising its set temperature a couple degrees, even "Super Casual Days" where the A/C would be shut off and employees could wear shorts; and updating policies to require that all purchased vehicles (as we replace) get more than 20 mpg. What could you come up with?
If you are interested in helping save your tax dollars and would be willing to volunteer some of your valuable time to meet and brainstorm, or if you can contribute in any way, please contact the Commission office at (406) 582-3000. We look forward to working with you!
