The Patrol Division currently consists of 34 sworn positions in two detachments. Seven officers are assigned to Gallatin Canyon as resident deputies to serve the residents of Big Sky and West Yellowstone. Two of these live in or around West Yellowstone, and five live in the Big Sky area.
The remaining 27 are assigned to the greater Gallatin Valley area and primarily serve the communities and neighborhoods around Bozeman, Belgrade, Manhattan, Logan, Three Forks, Willow Creek, Gallatin Gateway, Four Corners, Churchill, Amsterdam, Maudlow, Clarkston, and Sedan. Of these, Bozeman, Belgrade, Manhattan, and Three Forks have their own local police departments that we work closely with.
We operate three K-9 teams, one of which is in Big Sky. Over the last several years we have instituted a Bike Patrol Team, and a Marine Patrol program aimed at promoting boating safety on Hebgen Lake near West Yellowstone.
Our patrol deputies also handle most prisoner transports along with fielding calls for service and performing general patrol duties and traffic enforcement.
