Fire Investigation and Arson Task Force Team
A multi-jurisdictional Fire Investigation and Arson Task Force Team was established in the late 1980’s to investigate fire scenes by combining resources from several law enforcement agencies and fire departments. Currently, the team is overseen by the Gallatin County Sheriff and the Bozeman Fire Department Chief. The team is comprised of a mixture of investigators from both law enforcement and fire department personnel. The skills, training and resources from both entities, assist greatly with the difficult and time consuming process of fire scene investigation, evidence collection, preservation and scientific analysis, financial investigation, interviews and finally, in an event of arson, preparing a case for successful prosecution of the offender.
Fire Investigation and Arson Task Force Team members, which include investigators from the Bozeman Police Department, the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office, the Bozeman Fire Department, the Belgrade Fire Department and from various volunteer fire departments, receive training at the National Fire Academy in Emmetsburg, Maryland, as well as continued in-house training. The members of the team are on a call out basis and respond when requested to fire scenes throughout Gallatin County and all towns within.
