When Leaving a Phone Message:
Please only leave one (1) phone message. WE WILL RETURN YOUR CALL just as soon as we can. Your call is very important to us. Please slowly state your name, phone number, and a brief message and we will return your call.
Credit / Debit Cards:
Credit / Debit cards accepted are Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover. There is an additional fee charged to the customer to use a credit or debit card (2.5% with a minimum of $3.00. An amount up to approximately $120.00 will have the minimum fee of $3.00, above $120.00 will be the 2.5% fee - i.e. $120 x 2.5% = $3.00; $125 x 2.5% = $3.12).
Montana Drivers License:
Log on to www.dojmt.gov/driving or call toll free (866) 450-8034 to schedule an appointment for all knowledge testing, road testing, license transfer, most VIN inspections, and other services. The Driver's License Office in Gallatin County is located at 2005 Gilkerson #B, Bozeman, MT (off of Griffin and Gilkerson).
Registration Reminder Cards:
The registration reminder cards are mailed from State of Montana, Department of Justice (DOJ) - Motor Vehicle Division in Helena, MT. The cards are mailed to the registered owner DOJ has on file. DOJ provides this service as a courtesy only so please don't rely on the reminder notice. If you have sold the vehicle but receive the reminder notice, please disregard.
Register your Vehicle Permanently:
Vehicles eleven (11) years or older are eligible for permanent registration. Inquire when registering your vehicle.
There is an Information Desk in the Gallatin County Courthouse, 311 W. Main St., 1st Floor Lobby. The clerk located at the Information Desk is a Gallatin County Treasurer - Motor Vehicle Clerk:
- If you just need to renew your Montana Vehicle Registration, please go to Room 102 (closest to the entrance / exit doors onto Main St.).
- If you have purchased a new car from a dealer, pull a number and wait to be called into the Motor Vehicle Office (Room 104).
- If you have other titling or registration questions, please pull a number and go to the Information Desk. The clerk will answer questions, look over your paperwork to be sure all documents are complete, and depending on the situation, will be able to start entering your information so your time in the Motor Vehicle Office will be shorter.
- The Information Desk is open from 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. If there are staffing issues, and the Information Desk is closed, there will be a sign explaining the situation. Please pull a number and wait to be called into the Motor Vehicle Office, Room 104.
