Hazardous waste is waste that is dangerous or potentially harmful to our health or the environment. Hazardous wastes can be liquids, solids, gases, or sludges. They can be discarded commercial products (cleaning fluids or pesticides), automobile fliuds, or the by-products of manufacturing processes.
Environmental Health Services (EHS) coordinates with local fire departments, Disaster & Emergency Services and MDEQ to respond to spills and releases of hazardous materials in Gallatin County. Primary responsibility for regulation of hazardous materials resides with State and Federal Agencies. Call Disaster & Emergency Services for additional information at (406) 582-2350.
Mercury can be recycled at the Environmental Health Services Office (EHS). Please make sure the item is placed in two ziplock bags before you bring it into the office.

Recycling
Recycling turns materials that would otherwise become waste into valuable resources. Collecting used bottles, cans, and newspapers and taking them to a collection facility can be good for our environment.
