There are numerous temporary events in Gallatin County throughout the year at which food is served to the public. (Christmas Strolls, Sweet Pea, Potato Festival, Customer Appreciation BBQ, etc.)
All vendors serving food to the public, for a fee or for free, must possess either:
* A Montana Retail Food License
(mobile or catering endorsement)
OR
* A Temporary Event Food Service
Permit approved by
Environmental Health Services
Licensing fees may be required. Contact Gallatin City-County Health Department (GCCHD) for more information.
Farmers Market and Bake Sales
A Farmer's Market is a roadside stand owned and operated by a farmer, or an organized market authorized by the appropriate municipal or county authority. MCA 50-50-102(5)
Bake Sale - Baked goods and preserves may be sold by non-profit organizations. MCA 50-50-103(2)
Any individual participating in a Farmer's Market or a non-profit organization holding a bake sale, must complete and have a Farmer's Market / Bake Sale Application approved by Environmental Health Services.

GCCHD offers a free training for the volunteer food service worker.
