The Gallatin City-County Health Department offers public health nurses diverse opportunities in the clinic, home visitation and community settings. Public health nurses for the Health Department conduct immunization clinics, epidemiological investigation, home visitation for children 0-5 years, pregnant women and their families, participate in emergency response training, school nursing responsibilities and more. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants for positions within this class must be licensed to practice as a registered nurse in the state of Montana. Have knowledge of the theories, techniques and practices of public health nursing; public health laws, rules and regulations; medical terminology, preventative techniques and the effects of medication, immunizations and treatment; the operation and maintenance of equipment used in patient care, and have the ability to apply knowledge; maintain accurate records, reports and summaries; possess basic computer skills; recognize and appropriately refer health problems; handle sensitive and confidential information; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; and establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: B.S. degree in a nursing program from a college or university accredited by the National League of Nursing, one year's professional nursing experience preferred, but not required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Includes the ability to: reach, sit, bend, manipulate folders, papers; lift and carry boxes weighing up to 50 pounds; and operate equipment in the performance of job duties.
LICENSES: Applicants must be licensed to practice as a registered nurse in the state of Montana; must possess a valid driver’s license issued by the state of Montana, provide transportation to conduct out of office job duties (mileage reimbursement provided under County policy), and be insurable under the County’s liability policies.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Public Health experience preferred but not required. Spanish speaking bilingual preferred but not required.
